Join Midcoast Conservancy and Trail Monster Running for a fun, casual 6-week trail training series each Wednesday April 18 to May 23 at Hidden Valley Nature Center.

Each week, runners of all levels can start their run between 4:30 and 6pm. Volunteers from Midcoast Conservancy and Trail Monster will time everyone so that results can be compared week to week. We will have 3 and 6 mile courses marked. You’re encouraged to sign-up for all 6 weeks, but day-of registrations will be accepted.
$20 for members, $30 for non-members, $8 drop- in

Child care will be available for a fee of $5 per child.

Well behaved dogs that are under owner control at all times are welcome.

The beginner class focuses on the fundamental principles of alignment and a sequence of postures linked together by the breath. Students will be introduced to yoga poses through step by step verbal description and demonstration. Emphasis is placed on student understanding, safety, and stability within each pose. Props and posture modifications are offered to accommodate new or tighter bodies. No yoga experience is necessary. Class is open to all ages.

About your Instructor: Laurie Chadbourne believes that we all come to yoga with different needs and goals and sometimes we may not even know why we are arriving upon the mat. Yoga calls us in and guides us. Her intention is to create a safe, supportive practice that is accessible for everyone, at every age and every stage of life. She aspires to lead you through compassionate, judgment free, lighthearted classes linking breath and movement as she embarks on the journey of teaching. Robert A. Heinlein inspires her with, “When one teaches, two learn.”

Laurie enjoys reading and playing the guitar. She truly believes laughter may be the best medicine (next to yoga) and brings plenty of that with her on and off the mat.

The room is heated up to 80 degrees.

Each class is unique and targets a peak pose. The class is led with intention and intelligent sequencing to prepare the body properly for apex of the practice. We work foundational and primary poses in each session. And the root of the teachings is to develop the capacity for self-inquiry. The body becomes the vehicle. The practice session allows the body to open slowly not to overload the nervous system, and in exchange tension, stress and congestion that has been stored in the muscles and joints now has the opportunity to release. Thus creating ease. As we create strength in the body we also begin to embrace stillness and longer holds. In leaving a class one should have a feeling of stability, strength and a connection to the body.

This class is a dynamic practice. Please hydrate properly before the class.

About your instructor: The landscape of Amy Figoli’s teaching is to hold the intention for people to find a way in, to meet the totality of oneself through asana practice, as well as working with the ability to begin to listen to what is arising. Learning to not override the currently pushing language of culture and of our bodies. To hold the space for silence, and listen inquisitively to how the body speaks.

>Historic Workouts is working with the Town of Kennebunk this year for beach classes! Pilates Strength and Core will take place every Friday morning at Kennebunk Beach (Gooches Beach by the Seaside Inn) in Kennebunk, Maine at 8:30AM from May 25 through September 7 (4 sessions).

This 60-minute awesome beach workout is designed for all fitness levels that begins with a proper warm-up followed by an energetic and intense mat-based, Pilates inspired, strength training workout using your own body weight and finishing with stretch and flexibility. Moreover, this dynamic total body workout challenges you by working more than one muscle group at a time all while transitioning from one exercise to the next, without a lot of rest in between, testing your strength, endurance, core, and more. If you’re looking for a workout that will help increase muscle strength, develop a stronger core, reduce body fat, ease low back pain, improve flexibility and balance, as well as to help support mental well-being, then this class is for you. With this equipment-free workout all you need to bring is sunscreen, plenty of water, and a yoga mat or towel. We begin with gentle movements to warm the body. This part of the practice includes gliding and circular motions to release tension from areas of congestion and restriction in the body. You are introduced to slower movements of the body in preparation for more movement in the form of Vinyasa. We transition into standing postures to begin to cultivate stability and strength. Props are utilized in the practice as support. The combination of these gentle movements and postures leads to the cultivation of a strong, flexible body.

Enjoy Goat Yoga led by Ashley Flowers, at Smiling Hill Farm. Smiling Hill Farm currently has baby goats and mama goats that will be romping around in the pen with us during our yoga class. Bring a mat/towel or practice on the grass. All levels yoga class! Picture taking, lauging, and goat petting are all encouraged!

Each session will start with 15 min of goat snuggles, followed by an hour of yoga, completed with another 15 minutes of goat holding and snuggling! Arrive a few minutes early and check out the barnyard before class. Save a few minutes after class to get some ice cream made from Smiling Hill cow dairy!

Come and experience Maine’s finest trail running festival! Races include a 1km Kids’ race, 5km Canicross (dog+runner), standard 5km, and a 10km on Saturday 5/26/18; and a 25km, 50km, and 50 miler on Sunday 5/27/18.

The trails are 12′ wide non-technical XC paths through the woods and pastoral farmland with no noticable roots or rocks. The trails twist, turn, and roll like a roller coaster and include very few flat areas.

The festival also includes plenty of beer drinking, BBQ (veggie friendly), pot-luck dishes, desserts, eclectic music performances, and fun family activities.

We make our transition into fluid movement at a slower pace, then winding down and easing into restorative. Warm up your body in the woods, do yoga on the summit!

Hiking Yoga starts at the base of Mount Agamenticus at the entrance to the Ring Trail at 7am. After a 15-minute hike up the 0.3 mile Blueberry Bluff Trail, yoga will start at 7:30 am at the 692-foot summit.

The hike offers the challenge of climbing on exposed bedrock and the delight of expansive views to the south of Pawtuckaway Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. The Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region’s 10,000 acres is one of the largest remaining expanses of undeveloped forests in coastal New England. It’s known for its vernal pools, rich biodiversity, unique trail system and many of Maine’s rare plants and animals. Take advantage of this gem created by state, local, and non-profit landowners’ efforts to preserve the water, wildlife and land on Mount Agamenticus.

Pricing is $20.
$10 for Veterans, College/High School Students, and Yoga Instructors.
Studio Class Cards or Unlimited Monthly Memberships are applicable.
You should be able to get up and down from the ground with ease to attend this class.
A large tarp is put down so you get minimally sandy/dirty.
Dress in layers, strip down as your body warms up. Wear sunglasses.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to check-in and settle in.
We will have extra yoga mats if you need one.
In case of inclement weather, call 207-363-YOGA prior to coming to the beach. Class will be canceled if it is raining.

Get outside for a late spring/early summer day hike with beautiful views on Memorial Day. Pleasant Mountain, located in Bridgton and Denmark, is southern Maine’s tallest at 2,006 feet. Renewal in the Wilderness will bring our wilderness skills and lunch for everyone. Registration is required.

We will meet at the parking area for the Bald Peak Trail. From Portland, follow Rte. 302 west to Bridgton and continue on Rte. 302 for roughly 5 miles. Turn left onto Mountain Rd. and drive past Shawnee Peak Ski Area. Distance from Rte. 302 to the Bald Peak Trail is 1 mile.

Fee: $65 (Note: this is the actual cost to us as an organization, but if you really want to go and can’t afford it, contact us and we’ll figure something out. We’re committed to figuring out a way for folks to get the renewal they need.)
