You work out your arms, legs, and core using exercises that incorporate your whole body. Boot camp can get you into the best shape of your life. As one of my campers stated, “I am stronger, faster, and leaner”
A typical day includes a warm up, stretches, the ‘workout’, cool down, a possible game or challenge, and finishing stretches.

Boot camps varying routines are intense sessions that offer a variety of exercises, and challenge every muscle in your body. The beginner class focuses on the fundamental principles of alignment and a sequence of postures linked together by the breath. Students will be introduced to yoga poses through step by step verbal description and demonstration. Emphasis is placed on student understanding, safety, and stability within each pose. Props and posture modifications are offered to accommodate new or tighter bodies. No yoga experience is necessary. Class is open to all ages.

About your Instructor: Laurie Chadbourne believes that we all come to yoga with different needs and goals and sometimes we may not even know why we are arriving upon the mat. Yoga calls us in and guides us. Her intention is to create a safe, supportive practice that is accessible for everyone, at every age and every stage of life. She aspires to lead you through compassionate, judgment free, lighthearted classes linking breath and movement as she embarks on the journey of teaching. Robert A. Heinlein inspires her with, “When one teaches, two learn.”

Laurie enjoys reading and playing the guitar. She truly believes laughter may be the best medicine (next to yoga) and brings plenty of that with her on and off the mat.

Each class is unique and targets a peak pose. The class is led with intention and intelligent sequencing to prepare the body properly for apex of the practice. We work foundational and primary poses in each session. And the root of the teachings is to develop the capacity for self-inquiry. The body becomes the vehicle. The practice session allows the body to open slowly not to overload the nervous system, and in exchange tension, stress and congestion that has been stored in the muscles and joints now has the opportunity to release. Thus creating ease. As we create strength in the body we also begin to embrace stillness and longer holds. In leaving a class one should have a feeling of stability, strength and a connection to the body.

About your instructor: The landscape of Amy Figoli’s teaching is to hold the intention for people to find a way in, to meet the totality of oneself through asana practice, as well as working with the ability to begin to listen to what is arising. We begin with gentle movements to warm the body. This part of the practice includes gliding and circular motions to release tension from areas of congestion and restriction in the body. You are introduced to slower movements of the body in preparation for more movement in the form of Vinyasa. We transition into standing postures to begin to cultivate stability and strength. Props are utilized in the practice as support. The combination of these gentle movements and postures leads to the cultivation of a strong, flexible body.

Cranksgiving is a bicycle based food drive/scavenger hunt through Portland. As Part of a national effort to have fun on bikes and provide for the less fortunate. www.cranksgiving.org

We will start at 11 am at the Portland Gear Hub. Please bring a bike and $15-20 for food purchases. You will be handed a shopping list and a list of stores to visit. Then it is off to the races. The goal is to bike have fun while biking around Portland and buying items to donate to a local food pantry. There will be prizes and the ride ends at Rising Tide Brewery.

We work foundational and primary poses in each session. And the root of the teachings is to develop the capacity for self-inquiry. The body becomes the vehicle. The practice session allows the body to open slowly not to overload the nervous system, and in exchange tension, stress and congestion that has been stored in the muscles and joints now has the opportunity to release. Thus creating ease. As we create strength in the body we also begin to embrace stillness and longer holds. In leaving a class one should have a feeling of stability, strength and a connection to the body.

About your instructor: The landscape of Amy Figoli’s teaching is to hold the intention for people to find a way in, to meet the totality of oneself through asana practice, as well as working with the ability to begin to listen to what is arising. Learning to not override the currently pushing language of culture and of our bodies. To hold the space for silence, and listen inquisitively to how the body speaks.

This class setting is created to be of support to the nervous system. A reset to the system and the opportunity for deep rest are good for the soul, the body and the mind. We come in to a variety of restorative postures to aid in the dropping of an anxious mind. And to support a stressed physical and emotional body. This class goes well in tandem with any of the our other scheduled classes.

Jessi Dobbins
Jessi is the co-founder of Gorham Yoga Company. She first came to yoga in 2009 after the birth of her second child. She left her first class feeling strong and connected with herself, knowing she had found yoga for a reason. Since that first experience, yoga has helped Jessi stay focused and connected. It has given her a new appreciation for herself. Jessi has over 500 hrs of certifications, and received her training at Well Heart Yoga Studio.

Jessi brings positive energy, joy, and laughter to her classes. She loves to teach vinyasa flows, encouraging her students to move their bodies with each breath and reminding them that there is grace in every pose. She believes that the breath connects everything and continually reminds her students to breathe, find their inner strength, and dig deep.

You work out your arms, legs, and core using exercises that incorporate your whole body. Boot camp can get you into the best shape of your life. A typical day includes a warm up, stretches, the ‘workout’, cool down, a possible game or challenge, and finishing stretches.

Boot camps varying routines are intense sessions that offer a variety of exercises, and challenge every muscle in your body. By rapidly moving from one exercise to the next, with minimal breaks, you can get a cardiovascular workout while simultaneously toning your muscles. And, you burn lots of calories. Its fun, varied, motivating, produces amazing results, and meets at a fantastic location.

Boot camp’s 45 minutes workouts allow you to do strength training and aerobic training in a single workout, which is very efficient when you have a limited time to work out.

We begin with gentle movements to warm the body. This part of the practice includes gliding and circular motions to release tension from areas of congestion and restriction in the body. You are introduced to slower movements of the body in preparation for more movement in the form of Vinyasa. We transition into standing postures to begin to cultivate stability and strength. Props are utilized in the practice as support. The combination of these gentle movements and postures leads to the cultivation of a strong, flexible body.

A little about Jennifer…

Jennifer’s yoga journey began over a decade ago when she took her first power Vinyasa class in 2007. She was recovering from a running injury and seeking an alternative way to manage stress and remain active. She had no idea that yoga would become so much more to her over the years than a regular workout routine. Class after class, Jennifer began to appreciate how yoga has the ability to create strength, flexibility and transformation of our mind, body and soul. It aligns us with gratitude for the present moment and inspires us to lead healthier more purposeful lives. Over the past 10 years, she has practiced many styles of yoga in various studios throughout the country. Jennifer completed her 200hr teacher certification with Leslee Clark of Well Heart Yoga School in Falmouth Maine in 2015 and Yoga Assistant Training with Sue Jones and Ray Mucci of Prana Power Yoga in Cambridge Massachusetts in 2011 and 2017. A Doctor of Physical Therapy practicing locally in Portland, Jennifer is a specialist in pelvic floor, oncology and perinatal rehabilitation. She utilizes her passion for yoga in a holistic approach to healing injury. Her teaching is authentic and playful drawing from her knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics to create a safe and intentional practice for her students. Jennifer believes yoga is truly a gift and feels incredibly grateful to share it with this community.

The room is heated up to 80 degrees. During summer months, the heat is not on. We work a nature’s heat. This class is great for a good sweat!

Each class is unique and each class targets a peak pose through intelligent sequencing. The class is led with intention as you are properly prepared for the apex of the practice. We work with foundational and primary poses in each practice.

In this class we slow things down. We begin each practice with slow stretching of the body and preparing the body for movement in the form of Vinyasa. We make our transition into fluid movement at a slower pace, then winding down and easing into restorative. Practicing poses from this easeful state will help develop balance, strength, and resiliency and create a nourishing and rejuvenating experience of yoga.
