Free Weekly Early Morning SUP Paddles @ Portland Paddle
Aug 23 @ 7:00 am – 8:30 am
Free Weekly Early Morning SUP Paddles @ Portland Paddle | Portland | Maine | United States

We’re bringing back our weekly SUP paddles for our 2018 season! Starting on June 14 our staff will lead an early morning paddle from our site at the East End Beach every Thursday. It’s free to join with your own board or just $15 to rent one from us ($10 off the usual rate).

This weekly gathering is a casual paddle open to anyone with some SUP experience who feels comfortable and confident on a board. This isn’t a guided trip, so everyone is responsible for their own safety, but our staff are happy to share their knowledge of the sport. The group will stay on the water for about an hour and will pick a destination that fits the conditions and participants.

WHEN: Every Thursday starting on June 14, 7:00-8:30
WHERE: Portland Paddle’s site at the East End Beach (look for our sign)
WHO: Anyone who is confident and comfortable paddling a SUP on Casco Bay with a group
COST: Free with your own SUP; $15 to rent one from Portland Paddle ($10 off the usual rate)

Do you love dogs? Do you love to paddle? Do you love to paddle with your dog?

If you answered yes to any one of these questions you need to sign up to join us for the 1st Annual Paddle for the Pups event we’re hosting with our friends at the NHSPCA and Surftech.

Open to ALL paddle craft (i.e. kayaks, paddle boards, canoes), this event is all about getting out on the water, having fun, and doing your part to make a difference in the lives of some very special dogs.

Well behaved dogs are encouraged to join us for this amazing day!

Course Details:
Choose between two dog friendly courses…

Puppy Paddle: A 1-mile cruise that skirts alongside the Swasey Parkway.

Recreational Paddle: A 3-mile recreational paddle out to the 101 bridge. While not officially a race, prizes will be awarded to the first 3 paddles to return to the PEA Boathouse.

Paddle Requirements & Guidelines:

1) Every paddler must pay the $25.00 registration fee regardless of what type of paddle craft you are paddling (Paddleboard vs. tandem kayak).
2) As a fundraiser for the NHSPCA, all participants are required to raise a minimum of $200. Upon registering, a representative from NHSPCA will provide instructions on how to set up your personal fundraising page.
3) All paddlers must wear proper safety equipment including a personal floatation device (PFD). In addition to a PFD, all paddle boarders must wear a leash (no, not a dog leash, a SUP leash).
4) All paddlers must complete this safety waiver.
5) As a dog-friendly event, we expect all our fantastic dog owners to clean up after their pups and keep our surroundings neat and clean.

SUP Yoga Retreat @ Red Quill Cabin | Rangeley | Maine | United States

Join us for a 2-night, 3-day retreat that combines adventures of the body (Stand-Up-Paddle-Boarding) with adventures of the soul (yoga twice a day, journaling, meditation and relaxation). All athletic abilities are welcome—come renew your spirit and reawaken your passion! Registration closes September 1st.

“SUP Yoga improves balance, strength, flexibility, and mindfulness! Is it challenging? Yes! If you can stand on two feet, odds are you can stand on a paddle board! This is a great way to challenge yourself to try something new without having to worry about getting hurt. If you fall off, the water will catch you!” ~Ashley Flowers

Each day, we facilitate 2-3 yoga practices to take advantage of the natural rhythms of the body: an energizing morning practice, a mid-day practice and a restorative, relaxing evening practice. We also tailor our yoga practice to complement the season and our outdoor activities.

Firebird Trail Races @ Falmouth,maine

Firebird 50 Trail Race is more than just your everyday free trail race. This is about building community and accomplishing great feats together, helping each other finish a grueling task together for the first time or the millionth time.

HOW TO GET IN:
Unlike traditional races, ours is FREE, meaning we don’t pocket your money. Although that doesn’t mean there aren’t requirements on getting in, here’s what we’re asking from you:

1) Donate to a non-profit of your choice within a year before the race. We’d appreciate anything above $40 but we won’t force you to pay that amount*. You must send us a receipt that you donated though. *25k participants can skip money donations if they volunteer AFTER they finish their run at one of our aid stations.

2) Sign up and donate any item on the list attached here, bring that item the day of the race (this will provide for our aid stations): [THIS LINK WILL BE UPDATED SOON]

THE COURSE:
Its technical and challenging, lots of rocks and roots on a single track trail. The trail is in one direction, 16 miles long. Largely on the Cross-Falmouth Trail from Portland to Grey, Maine. The course will be marked with pink ribbon and white chalk. We’ll have 3 aid-stations along the course, one at each end and one in the middle.

– 25k Course: Starts in Portland, on Overset Rd., ends at Lowell Preserve in Windham. ONE LAP. Map can be found here: http://bit.ly/2EZWyhv

– 50k Course: Starts at Lowell Preserve in Windham, goes to Overset Rd. in Portland, then back to Lowell Preserve in Windham. TWO LAPS. Map can be found here: http://bit.ly/2qLVhWX

– 50m Course: Starts in Portland, on Overset Rd., takes a loop in Blackstrap Preserve (only once, on the first lap only), then heads to Lowell Preserve, then back to Overset Rd in Portland, finally finishing at Lowell Preserve in Windham. THREE LAPS + ONE BLACKSTRAP LOOP. Map can be found here: http://bit.ly/2Hi6XXS

WHAT YOU GET:
To keep this race low cost with a low impact we wont be providing any official prizes or awards, with exception of a solid high five and MAYBE a free beer. If we gain a sponsor, we’ll change this and get you something.
