Go to yoga OR hang out with friends at a local brewery? It’s an agonizing decision.

We’re forced to choose between two really great things: doing something good for our bodies and spending time with people we enjoy (whilst patronizing a cool local business that happens to make beer, kombucha, and/or spirits). Is it too much to ask that we just get to do all of it?

Actually, we CAN do all of it. And Be Well Portland will organize the whole thing.

Founded by local Kat Cynewski in 2016, Be Well Portland is a Maine-based event company that brings together our love of fitness and being social and eating and drinking.

“A healthy lifestyle is all about balance,” says Kat. And by balance she means a Sunday-morning yoga class followed by a delicious brunch and a mimosa. The combination amounts to more than just a workout. “Our aim is for our events to be an experience, not just another class,” she says.

Attendees get the fitness (classes range from yoga and barre to kickboxing and boot camp) and the social time (go with friends or meet new people there) and the opportunity to get up close and personal with Portland’s amazing array of distilleries, breweries, restaurants and maybe a farm or two.

The wellness-meets-brewery events are memorable and fun and good for you mentally and physically. And the classes are open to all levels and ages, so you’re welcome to join, whatever your experience level.

“We focus on making our events challenging for those that want to really push themselves and safe for those who may have never stepped foot into a fitness class before,” says Kat. “Whether you’re coming for a challenging workout or the amazing post-class beverages, you’re bound to have a great time.”

While each event can differ from the next (venue, class type, day/time, etc), generally speaking you can count on an hour of fitness followed by social time and a complimentary cocktail (or beer or kombucha). Consider the drink your well-earned reward for doing something nice for yourself. Because you should do good things for your body and then drink good things after.

Be Well Portland hosts events throughout the year at various locations around Greater Portland. Coming up, there’s a St. Patrick’s Day event at Bunker Brewing: Be Well St. Patty’s Day Party with Bunker Brewing X Mashed.

I don't like "exercise" any more than you do. But you know what I do like? Paddleboarding with a friend all afternoon (and then sitting in the grass to drink chardonnay). Bike rides and nachos, hikes, yoga classes held in breweries, group paddles to Fort Gorges, you get the idea. Because Maine is my gym.
