Vinyasa Yoga w/ Amy @ Threads of Yoga | Bridgton | Maine | United States

The room is heated up to 80 degrees.

The room is heated up to 80 degrees.

Each class is unique and targets a peak pose. The class is led with intention and intelligent sequencing to prepare the body properly for apex of the practice. We work foundational and primary poses in each session. And the root of the teachings is to develop the capacity for self-inquiry. The body becomes the vehicle. The practice session allows the body to open slowly not to overload the nervous system, and in exchange tension, stress and congestion that has been stored in the muscles and joints now has the opportunity to release. Thus creating ease. As we create strength in the body we also begin to embrace stillness and longer holds. In leaving a class one should have a feeling of stability, strength and a connection to the body.

This class is a dynamic practice. Please hydrate properly before the class.

About your instructor: The landscape of Amy Figoli’s teaching is to hold the intention for people to find a way in, to meet the totality of oneself through asana practice, as well as working with the ability to begin to listen to what is arising. Learning to not override the currently pushing language of culture and of our bodies. To hold the space for silence, and listen inquisitively to how the body speaks.

Cranksgiving @ Portland Gear Hub
Nov 17 @ 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Cranksgiving @ Portland Gear Hub | Portland | Maine | United States

Join us for Cranksgiving 2019!

Cranksgiving is a fun bike-based food drive/scavenger hunt.

Started in NYC, there are Cranksgiving events around the country (read more about it here: http://www.cranksgiving.org). Called “a food drive on two wheels,” the Portland event will gather food donations for the Westbrook Food Bank. And you’ll have a grand time in the process.

Riders will meet at Portland Gear Hub on Washington Ave. There, everyone will get a grocery list and a list of stores/markets in the area. You’ll ride from store to store buying the food (expect ingredients from a traditional Thanksgiving meal) and aim to be the first to return with the goods. You don’t have to race, though – this ride is open to those who want to race and those who’d prefer to meander. You can ride as a team or solo, too. And bonus points for biking with a turkey.

No need to register in advance – just show up the day of the event. There’s no registration fee to participate, just the cost of the groceries you’ll buy (around $15-$20, give or take).

Whatever your pace, please come ride your bike and collect food for the Westbrook Food Pantry.

+ We’ll end at local brewery Rising Tide!

The Savage Family Turkey Trot 5k ( Run/Walk) @ Bug Light Park | South Portland | Maine | United States

What’s more fun than a holiday race?? Racing the 3rd Annual Savage Family Turkey Trot 5k at Bug Light, on Thanksgiving morning !!! This going to be a fun family event !!! This is the third annual run of the Turkey Trot to honor Nathan Savage. Nathan was an avid runner, biker, triathlete and family man. He lost his life to a fatal heart attack on July 2, 2016. This was just three weeks before he was set to compete in his first full Ironman event, and just months prior to his 40th birthday. This year’s event will fall on November 28th..

The proceeds will stay local and be given to the Nathan Savage Memorial Fund, a fund created by the Savage Family with the South Portland Community Center that gives financial assistance to any child wanting to participate in one of their youth development programs. One of Nathan’s dreams was to help kids get off the couch and get out there and be active and healthy and we thought this was the perfect way to honor his dream. So, prepare to have that extra helping at dinner, or that second ( or third) piece of pie and join us!!! Run, walk, bring your friends, your family and maybe even your well behaved dog ( on leash, of course). Start your Thanksgiving day off and support an amazing family and a great cause.

T-shirts to all those donating $20 or more before 11/15/2019.

Fundraising is optional, and there is no minimum amount to raise, but we hope you will consider creating a team and soliciting donations. Gather your friends and co-workers to join you. All proceeds directly benefit the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine and are tax deductible.

CRCWM was founded in 2015 as a place where those affected by cancer can go to participate in a variety of wellness programs and find supportive resources as they deal with the challenges of cancer.
