Pisgah Hill Full Moon Trek @ Pisgah Hill
Feb 19 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Pisgah Hill Full Moon Trek @ Pisgah Hill

Join as many as a hundred RRCT members, neighbors, trustees, toddlers, grandparents and friends to hike the loop trail, share some cheer at the summit, sip hot cocoa, toast marshmallows, and hoot or howl at the big orange rising moon.

This year brings RRCT’s 8th annual mountain-top moonrise trek and bonfire. All the fun happens at Pisgah Hill Preserve, 74 Dougherty Road, New Gloucester near the Pownal town line.

The sun sets at 5:20 pm and the moon rises a few minutes later. Plan to start you hike between 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm and plan on 30 solid minutes of hiking time on this 1.5 mile lollipop-style loop trail (1 mile loop with a 0.5 mile stick). The trail is well-marked and typically lighted with luminaries for the return. Gentle elevation rise and a rickety bridge on the trail requires some effort; assistance for the elderly or toddlers may be required for one or two steep ledge steps. Bring snowshoes, poles, a flashlight or headlamp, blanket, water, and lots of good cheer. We’ll provide marshmallows and more. The trailhead has a small parking lot which fills quickly. Most vehicles line the shoulder of Dougherty Road. Click here for Preserve details and maps.

With scenic courses and stunning views this race is sure to please both the first timer looking for a fun event to get outside and experienced triathlete alike.

10:00a Tentative Start Time
(no need to get up early, it’s winter and we have no reason to start in the dark!)

The Moose on the Loose triathlon was conceived as a collaboration between TriME and the Meadows Golf Club to provide an opportunity to take advantage of the trails and club house of the Meadows Golf Club and world class operations of TriME to produce a winter triathlon the experienced triathlete and outdoor enthusiast will both enjoy. Proceeds will benefit the Litchfield Snowmobile Club.

Information will soon be added on a friendly, fun and free kids race (run or snowshoe a special loop just for the kids!).

Included with your entry: Race swag, great post race food and of course a scenic, safe, closed course through Litchfield, Maine.

Northwoods Winter Weekend @ Moosehead Lake

Northwoods Winter Weekend @ Moosehead Lake

March is the perfect winter month! Daylight has started to return, the temperatures are reasonable and we have a lot of snow! Our winter weekend will take us to Rockwood Maine where we still stay in a rustic cabin on Moosehead Lake. We will be skiing on groomed trails and have the option (conditions permitting) to ski over to Kineo and ski around the base (or maybe hike to the top). Arrival time is 4:00pm on Friday…in time for dinner and perhaps a nighttime ski or snowshoe. All meals and accomodations are included. Designed for beginners and intermediate skiers.

Winter Watercolor with Lesia Sochor @ Tanglewood 4-H Camp
Mar 16 all-day
Winter Watercolor with Lesia Sochor @ Tanglewood 4-H Camp

Tanglewood Camp in Lincolnville Maine is the setting for this Winter Watercolor Adventure. We will either snowshoe or hike the trails along the Ducktrap River. In my mind this is one of the most beautiful and peaceful watersheds on the mid-coast. The sparkling water, ice crystals, suspension bridge and forest ecosystem are spectacular. Using this backdrop for inspiration artist and teacher Lesia Sochor will guide students in painting with watercolors. By observing the natural surroundings, weather permitting, students will do quick watercolor studies coming back to enlarge or combine what they’ve seen by painting indoors. If it is too cold to paint plein air, photographs will be taken of the environment and paintings made from them.

Mary’s Walk & Kerrymen 5K @ Starts at Thornton Academy
Mar 24 @ 12:00 pm
Mary's Walk & Kerrymen 5K @ Starts at Thornton Academy | Saco | Maine | United States

Mary’s Walk began in 1999 as a unique way to recognize and remember Mary Kerry Libby, a much-loved member of the Saco-Biddeford community who passed away from Burkitt’s Lymphoma.

What started as a simple memorial stroll through town with a few hundred people has evolved into a major community effort that has attracted over 50,000 participants in its 20-year span and raised over $3 million to support Maine-based cancer programs.

Last year Mary’s Walk, and its companion run, the Kerrymen 5K, raised nearly $250,000 and attracted 2,000 participants to downtown Saco.

Thanks to advances in the understanding of cancer, Burkitt’s Lymphoma now has an effective treatment that saves lives every year. We will continue to support the memory of Mary and all men and women who suffer from every type of cancer until we can proudly celebrate a Maine without cancer.
