Jan 11 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Wednesday, January 11, from 5-7 pm, Midcoast Conservancy will offer a full moon snowshoe hike at Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson. Enjoy a crisp evening illuminated by the glow of the moon and discover a new way of being in the woods. At night, sounds become more pronounced; listen for owls and the rustling of nighttime foragers along the trail.

Meet at the gate at HVNC at 5pm. Dress warmly, wear shoes with good grips if not snowshoeing or bring snowshoes, and bring hiking stick if desired, snack, drink and flashlight or headlamp. Guide Chuck Dinsmore will lead the hike to shore of Little Dyer Pond, to watch the moon rise over the water. The hike will be about 40 minutes each way, and of moderate ease. Snowshoes are available by reservation

Midcoast Conservancy’s Hidden Valley Nature is open to the public three hundred and sixty-five days a year, dawn to dusk. Comprising 1,000 acres of diverse habitat, and laced with nearly thirty miles of multi-use trails HVNC makes a great classroom for nature-based learning and non-motorized recreation. Pisgah Hill Full Moon Trek @ Pisgah Hill Preserve, Dougherty Road trailhead, Pownal
Feb 1 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Pisgah Hill Full Moon Trek @ Pisgah Hill Preserve, Dougherty Road trailhead, Pownal | Pownal | Vermont | United States

Last February almost a hundred RRCT members, neighbors, trustees, toddlers, grandparents and friends hiked the loop trail through the perfect amount of new snow, shared some cheer at the summit, toasted with hot cocoa, toasted marshmallows, and hooted at the big orange rising moon.
Join us again this year with your neighbors and friends for our 7th annual mountain-top moon viewing, Thursday, Feb. 1, from 5-8pm for a free self-guided hike and celebratory gathering atop 325′ Pisgah Hill. The full moon is technically the day before; on Feb 1 expect to bask in the silver glow as the moon begins to rise at 6:26pm. Start your hike just after the sun sets at 4:52 pm and toast the “Blue Snow Moon” as it clears the horizon and lights our way home. This trek is accessible for most people who would feel comfortable snowshoeing during the day. All the fun happens at Pisgah Hill Preserve- south trailhead, 74 Dougherty Road, New Gloucester near the Pownal town line.

The trail is well marked and typically lighted with luminaries for the return. Bring snowshoes, poles, a flashlight or headlamp, blanket, water, and lots of good cheer. We’ll provide marshmallows and more. The trailhead has a small parking lot which fills quickly. Most vehicles are asked to line the shoulder of Dougherty Road.

This is a self-guided hike between 5-8 p.m., so come when you can, hike to the summit, and hang out by the bonfire.
