Summer Solstice SwimRun @ Unity College: Sky Lodge

Immerse yourself in the beautiful trails, lakes, and woods of the Moose River Valley in a truly remarkable way this summer. Find a partner and get ready for the Summer Solstice SwimRun!

Starting and ending at the historic Sky Lodge in Moose River, Maine, the Summer Solstice SwimRun is an event for seasoned endurance athletes, SwimRun newbies, and fun for the entire family. The Moose River valley is a favorite spot for winter snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing, fall leaf peeping and hunting, and summer rafting, ATV, hiking, and trail biking. Come experience the region’s cultural and natural history in a new way with either a beginner-friendly short course race of approximately 10.3 kilometers or a challenging long course race of just over 26 kilometers. There will also be fitness activities for families and community members while racers are on the course.

What is SwimRun?

Run, swim, scramble, repeat. SwimRun is a growing sport that entails teams of two participants making their way together around a point-to-point race course with alternating segments of running and open water swimming. Teams may be female, male, or co-ed.

Teams must bring all their gear with them to minimize transitions. Participants run in their wetsuits and swim with their shoes. Partners are tethered during the swims, and safety is the number one priority. Fun is close second

Portland Wine Run @ Cutter Street, East End
Jun 23 @ 10:00 am

Place
Cutter St
East End Beach/Boat Launch
Portland, ME US 04101
Description

Welcome to the first Portland Wine Run held during Portland Wine week!

This self timed, non competitive run is inspired by journey runs, Ned Swain the owner of Devenish Wines has done. These were runs of indeterminate length in wine regions all over Italy. The more that Ned did this and reflected on it, he learned there are a lot of philosophical parallels between Journey running and wine making. In both situations you don’t necessarily know where you’re going to end up and you have to accept and deal with whatever nature gives you.

“Since it’s a tie in with my journey running around Italy I want people to think about the difference between a normal training run in your neighborhood where you know exactly how long it will be and when you will stop compared to running somewhere that you’ve never been before and you’re not sure where the finish is.” said Ned Swain

Start time/ location: Sunday June 23 at 10:00 am, near the running path by the East End Beach boat launch, at the bottom of Cutter Street, Portland Maine 04102

Finish time/location: At 11:15 am, Back Cove path at the corner of Baxter Boulevard and Preble Street, Portland Me.

Wine tasting/post run location: At Rising Tide Brewery* located at 3 Fox Street, Portland Me.

*After the run everybody will reconvene at the Rising Tide Brewery for a wine tasting and talk by Ned about journey running and wine making.

The Portland Wine Run is a fundraiser for ‘LookUp’ an innovative program designed to help inspire and empower disadvantaged young people by running with community organizers and business professionals.

Tough Mountain Challenge @ Sunday River

Tough Mountain Challenge @ Sunday River | Maine | United States

Why Tough Mountain Challenge?

If you want to run 10 miles in the company of 10,000 other people and wait in half-hour lines at obstacles, you’ll find plenty of events where you can do just that. If you want to suffer for hours and risk life and limb, you can find those races too. But if you’re looking for something different – something as fun as it is tough without the ego and the crowds – welcome to the Tough Mountain Challenge.
The Race

Based at Sunday River Ski Resort in western Maine, the Tough Mountain Challenge is an adventure obstacle race that tackles alpine terrain and throws in natural and man-made challenges. It’s just 5k in length, but when you’re running up a mountain under an arsenal of snowguns or scrambling through the mud it will feel much longer. Tough Mountain Challenge is a timed event, but it’s not about whether you finish first or last – it’s about testing yourself and pushing your limits then celebrating your accomplishment once you cross the finish line.

Tough Mountain Challenge is limited to fixed number competitors in each heat to keep the race from feeling too crowded and ensure everyone has a great time. For kids, we also run a Mini Mountain Challenge.
