Androscoggin Land Trust River Race @ Festival Plaza, Auburn

Join us for the 4th annual canoe and kayak race on the Androscoggin River for all ages and abilities held in conjunction with the Great Falls Brewfest!

ABOUT THE EVENT
The Androscoggin Land Trust’s (ALT’s) annual event proudly presented in 2019 by Spectrum Healthcare Partners is open to all to launch canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, (and more!) into the Androscoggin River and complete one of three courses of varying length and challenge! This event is held in conjunction with the Great Falls Brewfest, which takes place that afternoon a stones-throw across the river from our starting line (and thanks to Baxter Brewing, all pre-registered racers 21+ receive a discount on admission to the Brewfest!). This event is a unique opportunity to take in natural beauty of the Androscoggin River with a group of fellow paddlers.

The 2019 ALT River Race has three COURSE OPTIONS:

1.) LONG DISTANCE PADDLE (WITH RAPIDS) – An approximately 7 mile course that includes a section of rapids typically rated class I or II (but could be class III depending on the water level on the day of the race). The event allows racers to experience unique sections of the Androscoggin River with many other recreational enthusiasts. Note: Due to the rapids section, paddleboards are NOT recommended for this course. Average Time: 1 hr 22 min.

2.) BOOMERANG PADDLE (NO RAPIDS) – An approximately 3 mile course, Auburn to Lewiston boat launch & back upriver to Auburn (no rapids). Average Time: 50 minutes

3. ) TWIN CITY PADDLE (NO RAPIDS) – An approximately 1.5 mile course. Short, fun paddle (no rapids) Auburn to Lewiston boat launch. Average Time: 30 minutes

AWARDS will be given to the top 2 finishers in each category. One additional award will be given to the boat or paddler with the best costume.

Thanks to the support of Baxter Brewing, all racers 21+ will receive a coupon code for 15% OFF a ticket to the GREATFALLS BREWFEST (scheduled for 12PM VIP, and 2PM General Admission on June 22, 2019).

ENTRY FEES:

– $25 per single boat, $35 per double boat
– Day-of: $30 per single boat, $40 per double boat

EARLY BIRD DISCOUNTS:

– Register by April 30 to receive $10 off entry
– Register by May 31 to receive $5 off entry

All event proceeds support the land conservation, watershed protection, and outdoor recreation work of the Androscoggin Land Trust.

Celebrate Summer Solstice w/Bioluminescence Night Paddle @ Castine Kayak Adventures

Experience an unforgettable evening paddle in Castine Harbor under a blanket of stars and in the midst of bioluminescent organisms of the water that swirl and light up with every stroke of your paddle. Fascinating! Castine’s Harbor is Maine’s own Bioluminescent Bay with a unique ecosystem that creates the perfect environment for these glow in the dark phytoplankton to survive and multiply. We’ll explore the constellations of the stars of the night sky immersed in the bioluminescent stars of the water! in Maine’s very own Bioluminescent Bay

We gather just prior to sunset and after getting outfitted with lifejackets, paddles and lights we head to the docks with our Maine Guide for paddling instruction and then launch our kayaks into the calm mystical night waters of Castine’s Bioluminescent Bay… as the light fades the water begins to glow! We have Double and Single kayaks, allowing beginners and experienced kayakers to enjoy this amazing experience!
Only $65 per person! (Youth 10+ with an adult)

****Make a weekend of it and spend the night in Castine!

Acoustic Paddle: Sea Kayak to Fort Gorges for Live Music @ Fort Gorges
Jun 23 @ 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm
Acoustic Paddle: Sea Kayak to Fort Gorges for Live Music @ Fort Gorges

Fort Gorges, the beautiful granite structure that sits surrounded by water in Casco Bay, is the perfect setting for live music and an ideal kayaking destination!

Cost is $65 per person (includes sea kayak, guide, live music).

If you love hearing live music and you’re into outdoor adventure, this is the sea kayak trip for you! This unique combination of kayaking, live music and history is easily our favorite trip and we’re really excited to bring it back for the 2019 season. Acoustic Paddle is an experience that involves paddling to historic Fort Gorges for a performance by a musician surrounded by the granite walls of the fort. There’s also time for exploring the fort and enjoying gorgeous panoramic views of Casco Bay and the Portland skyline. To top it all off, we paddle back to the mainland as the sun is setting.

OUR 2019 ARTISTS:
June 23: Caroline Cotter
July 14: Sara Hallie Richardson
July 28: Emilia Dahlin
August 11: Fort Gorgeous
August 25: Sorcha Cribben-Merrill

The trips start at 3:30 at Portland Paddle’s East End Beach shop. Portland Paddle’s guides will gear everyone up and provide some paddling tips before the group heads out into the bay to explore the islands of Portland harbor on our way to Fort Gorges. We’ll look out for seals, sea bird and other sights as we make our way across the open waters of the bay.

After some paddling, we’ll arrive at the Fort to settle in for a set of live music. Every Acoustic Paddle features a performance by a different talented artist. The fort provides a perfect setting and the acoustics are incredible. We’ll also provide a small spread of snacks to enjoy as we listen. After the music winds down, we’ll paddle back to the East End just before darkness settles over the harbor.
