Weekly Group SUP Paddle @ Portland Paddle

Weekly Group SUP Paddle @ Portland Paddle

We’re bringing back our weekly SUP paddles for our 2019 season! Starting on June 6 our staff will lead an early morning paddle from our site at the East End Beach every Thursday. It’s free to join with your own board or just $15 to rent one from us ($10 off the usual rate).

This weekly gathering is a casual paddle open to anyone with some SUP experience who feels comfortable and confident on a board. This isn’t a guided trip, so everyone is responsible for their own safety and it’s not a good fit for total novices. That said, our staff are happy to share their knowledge of the sport and offer tips and support. The group will stay on the water for about an hour and will pick a destination that fits the conditions and participants.

A note about weather: If we need to cancel a weekly paddle due to weather conditions we will post an update on our Meetup page and on Facebook.

Wellness & Wine: Barre, Bubbles & Bites @ Solo Italiano
Jun 23 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Wellness & Wine: Barre, Bubbles & Bites @ Solo Italiano

DETAILS: Effervescence and community at Barre & Bubbles. Move, strengthen, and center yourself in this hour-long Barre class with instructor Ellie Lovin followed by bubbles and bites at Solo Italiano.

Inspired by classical ballet, Pilates, yoga and functional movement, Barre enhances your mind-body connection, refines your movement quality and builds strength, balance and grace from the inside out. Open to all movers–no dance or barre class experience necessary. BYO yoga mat and a pair of regular (not grippy) socks.

Let your endorphins flow before the bubbles are poured! Bring a friend or make 29 new ones at a joyful total body barre class around Solo Italiano’s open, light-filled bar between iconic views of Commercial Street and Portland’s working waterfront. Following your class, Crush and Easterly distributors will pour a rewarding flight of sparkling wines—Ortrugo Vivace, Prosecco Superiore, Franciacorte, and Nebbiolo Brut. Chef Paolo and Mercedes will match each pour with an appropriate noontime nibble to further the ride your endorphins will be on!

Elly Lovin has been wearing leg warmers and dancing around the house since 1986. She began her studies in classical ballet at age five and went on to earn a BFA in Dance from the University of Iowa with a focus in ballet, modern dance and performance. She has a 200-hour Vinyasa RYT certification through Frog Lotus Yoga (2008) and has taught yoga, ballet-barre fitness and creative dance to children and adults in Iowa, Taiwan, Chicago, New York City and Portland, Maine. Elly teaches locally at The Rooted Collective, Portland School of Ballet, Casco Bay Movers and Waynflete Schools. She is a Maine Arts Commission Teaching Artist, teaching creative dance residencies in public schools throughout Maine. Elly believes in movement as celebration, not punishment, and that any form of movement practice should serve to deepen the movers’ relationship to themselves and the world around them in a meaningful way.

COST: $45 per person

Acoustic Paddle: Sea Kayak to Fort Gorges for Live Music @ Fort Gorges
Jun 23 @ 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm
Acoustic Paddle: Sea Kayak to Fort Gorges for Live Music @ Fort Gorges

Fort Gorges, the beautiful granite structure that sits surrounded by water in Casco Bay, is the perfect setting for live music and an ideal kayaking destination!

Cost is $65 per person (includes sea kayak, guide, live music).

If you love hearing live music and you’re into outdoor adventure, this is the sea kayak trip for you! This unique combination of kayaking, live music and history is easily our favorite trip and we’re really excited to bring it back for the 2019 season. Acoustic Paddle is an experience that involves paddling to historic Fort Gorges for a performance by a musician surrounded by the granite walls of the fort. There’s also time for exploring the fort and enjoying gorgeous panoramic views of Casco Bay and the Portland skyline. To top it all off, we paddle back to the mainland as the sun is setting.

OUR 2019 ARTISTS:
June 23: Caroline Cotter
July 14: Sara Hallie Richardson
July 28: Emilia Dahlin
August 11: Fort Gorgeous
August 25: Sorcha Cribben-Merrill

The trips start at 3:30 at Portland Paddle’s East End Beach shop. Portland Paddle’s guides will gear everyone up and provide some paddling tips before the group heads out into the bay to explore the islands of Portland harbor on our way to Fort Gorges. We’ll look out for seals, sea bird and other sights as we make our way across the open waters of the bay.

After some paddling, we’ll arrive at the Fort to settle in for a set of live music. Every Acoustic Paddle features a performance by a different talented artist. The fort provides a perfect setting and the acoustics are incredible. We’ll also provide a small spread of snacks to enjoy as we listen. After the music winds down, we’ll paddle back to the East End just before darkness settles over the harbor.

**Reservations required to join the tour**

Yoga on the Point @ Thompson's Point

Be Well Events and Thompson’s Point are thrilled to bring you Yoga On The Point! Overlooking the beautiful Fore River we invite you to flow, connect with nature, and soak in the sun with some of the best instructors around. Join us for a summer series you won’t want to miss!

Yoga classes will be challenging and powerful while accessible to all, no matter your skill level. After cultivating strength and bliss in an upbeat yoga class, hang on the point, shop local vendors, grab a bite at the food trucks, or a drink at the bar while catching the sun set.

** Only $15 per person or $150 for the whole summer (13 events)!

Rotating Teaching Schedule and Food Trucks announced soon – check back on Facebook for all the updates!
