We’re bringing back our weekly SUP paddles for our 2019 season! Starting on June 6 our staff will lead an early morning paddle from our site at the East End Beach every Thursday. It’s free to join with your own board or just $15 to rent one from us ($10 off the usual rate).
This weekly gathering is a casual paddle open to anyone with some SUP experience who feels comfortable and confident on a board. This isn’t a guided trip, so everyone is responsible for their own safety and it’s not a good fit for total novices. That said, our staff are happy to share their knowledge of the sport and offer tips and support. The group will stay on the water for about an hour and will pick a destination that fits the conditions and participants.
A note about weather: If we need to cancel a weekly paddle due to weather conditions we will post an update on our Meetup page and on Facebook.
Join us Thursday nights from May-September as we partner with L.L.Bean for our weekly Bike & Brew rides. The 22- mile route begins and ends at Maine Beer Company, and is a self-supported, moderate skill group ride through the back roads of Freeport, Yarmouth, North Yarmouth, and Pownal. Check in at Maine Beer Company between 4:30-5:15(you will need to fill out 2 waivers-only need to do this once), the ride leaves around 5:15, and is followed by a beer on your return.
June 21, 2019 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Bald Pate Mountain
Join us for the annual Summer Solstice Hike up the Bob Chase Trail at Bald Pate Mountain. Meet at the main parking area off of Rt 107 at 5:00 PM. This annual trek has been a Loon Echo tradition for 20 years. It’s a fun way to welcome summer’s arrival and remember one of Loon Echo’s founders, Bob Chase! Feel free to share music, poems or stories that embody the spirit of the day. Sturdy hiking boots or shoes, water and snacks are always encouraged. Approximately 2 hours. Easy to moderate
Immerse yourself in the beautiful trails, lakes, and woods of the Moose River Valley in a truly remarkable way this summer. Find a partner and get ready for the Summer Solstice SwimRun!
Starting and ending at the historic Sky Lodge in Moose River, Maine, the Summer Solstice SwimRun is an event for seasoned endurance athletes, SwimRun newbies, and fun for the entire family. The Moose River valley is a favorite spot for winter snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing, fall leaf peeping and hunting, and summer rafting, ATV, hiking, and trail biking. Come experience the region’s cultural and natural history in a new way with either a beginner-friendly short course race of approximately 10.3 kilometers or a challenging long course race of just over 26 kilometers. There will also be fitness activities for families and community members while racers are on the course.
What is SwimRun?
Run, swim, scramble, repeat. SwimRun is a growing sport that entails teams of two participants making their way together around a point-to-point race course with alternating segments of running and open water swimming. Teams may be female, male, or co-ed.
Teams must bring all their gear with them to minimize transitions. Participants run in their wetsuits and swim with their shoes. Partners are tethered during the swims, and safety is the number one priority. Fun is close second
Join the Kennebec Land Trust and Kennebec Valley Bicycle Club for a tour highlighting a number of our most scenic properties in the West Gardiner Area. There will be two options, with shorter and longer distances. Both distances will be no-drop rides suitable for all abilities.
Meet at 9 AM at the West Gardiner Elementary School. There will be two routes, 17 miles or 36 miles.
Please call our office. with any questions 207-377-2848.
