THE WEEKEND! Fat Bikes, Snowshoe Race, Yoga in a Brewery

Three cheers for the recent snow and for events that don’t cost a dime! That snow will come in handy for this weekend’s snowshoe race at Bradbury Mountain, a fat bike demo at Harris Farm, and WinterKids’ family-friendly Welcome to Winter event at Payson Park. Indoors, there are free Intro to Pilates classes and a yoga class at Dirigo Brewing in Biddeford.

For the weekend of Jan. 19-21, 201:

Welcome to Winter

12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20. Payson Park, Portland. Free.
A free family-friendly event celebrating winter and snow. There will be sledding, snowshoeing, ice skating, snow Zumba, horse carriage rides, snowboarding demos and MORE. All are welcome.
ALSO: If you want to come have fun and sled, but you don’t have kids and feel weird showing up to a family event, you can VOLUNTEER! You’ll do good and get to sled:

Free Fat Bike Riding and Demo Day

8-10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20. Harris Farm, Dayton. Free.
Join Maine Bike Works for a free fat bike demo morning. If you’ve never ridden a fat bike before, but you’re curious to give it a try, this is the perfect opportunity. Kennebunkport Bicycle Co. will bring a bunch of bikes and will offer tips, too.

Bradbury Mountain Snowshoe Series

11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21. Bradbury Mountain, Pownal. $25.
Test your snow-running skills with this 3-mile course on Bradbury Mountain. Trail Monster Running hosts this series, which includes a 4-mile race in Feb. and a 5-mile race in March. If you don’t own running snowshoes, there are some available to borrow.

Introduction to Pilates Workshops

8-9 a.m. and 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. Springboard Pilates, Portland. Free.
Give Pilates a try during one of these free workshops. No experience is necessary, and you’ll learn the basics about Pilates and how it can you stay strong and flexible. A couple more workshops later in the month, too.

Downdogs at Dirigo

10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. Dirigo Brewing Co., Biddeford. $15.
An hour-long all level vinyasa flow yoga class led by Lindsey in our beautiful tasting room with a waterfall view. Class is followed by a Dirigo beer of your choice. Bring your own mat. Happens every Sunday.

I don't like "exercise" any more than you do. But you know what I do like? Paddleboarding with a friend all afternoon (and then sitting in the grass to drink chardonnay). Bike rides and nachos, hikes, yoga classes held in breweries, group paddles to Fort Gorges, you get the idea. Because Maine is my gym.
