No disrespect to the world’s candies, but instead of tipping back a whole box of chocolate-covered nougat and butterscotch squares this Valentine’s Day, I propose we go DO something with the ones we love.*

*And maybe eat some chocolate, too.

You can snowshoe together and roast marshmallows by a bonfire. You can explore the chubby-tire world of fat bikes, climb rock walls or try AcroYoga (which is like acrobatics and yoga combined and it’s done in partners). There are a plenty of options.

It just so happens that Valentine’s Weekend also coincides with Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, which runs Feb. 12-14 and includes tons of outdoor events around the state, from twilight hikes to snowshoe races. Check the complete GMOW schedule.

So whether you’re spending the weekend with a significant other, friends or you’re venturing out on your own, you can be sure to get your heart racing one way or another.
