If you’re interested in learning tennis – or want to get back into it after a long hiatus – taking a few lessons with an instructor is a good place to start. (Getting a racket helps, too.)
To encourage you further, Maine Pines Racket and Fitness in Brunswick offers a Tennis 1-2-3 program every month that includes three weekly clinics (on either Tuesday morning, Wednesday evening, or Saturday morning). The cost for the session is $55 – BUT, you can do it for free with a little help from localsaver.com. The Tennis 1-2-3 session includes three instructional classes, plus weekend court time, access to fitness and yoga classes for the month, and a social tennis mixer.
I like tennis because it’s a sport where frequent and audible grunting is customary. It’s also a sport that’ll have you sprinting across the court, swinging forehand and backhand, and (hopefully) rocketing the ball back over the net. This is a lively game – one that will certainly keep your heart rate up – and one that will keep your noggin entertained, too. (I don’t suppose there’s a lot of daydreaming on the tennis court, in the same way your thoughts can stray when you’re, say, jogging or swimming.)
Tennis 1-2-3 runs monthly and starts at the beginning of the month (so the August session is coming right up).
Clinics run on Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m., Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. (You pick which day works for you. There’s flexibility to make up clinics if needed. Maine Pines is pretty much making it as easy as possible for you to get started. So get started.)
