Aerial performers make it look easy, but those moves require some major muscle (which makes aerial silks a solid workout, even for beginners). And while mastering those moves takes years of practice, you can still gain some basics and do some pretty impressive moves your first time. I mean, just hanging upside down is pretty damn fun!

The beginner class with Sarah Webb runs every other Saturday at Breakwater School in Portland at 9:45 a.m. Drop-in is $25. For more info or to register, see Apparatus Dance Theater‘s Facebook page or email apparatusdancetheater@gmail.com to register or ask questions.

ALSO: There’s a Tuesday-night class 6-7:30 p.m., beginner-friendly and also at Breakwater School. “We’ll do a little sling, silk, and trapeze!” $20 drop-in, or bring a friend with you who has never been to an apparatus dance class, and you each pay $15 instead of $20.
I checked out the Tuesday session a while back. Read about that here: Try the silks at an Aerial Improv class in Portland (and trapeze! And aerial hoop!)

Instructor Sarah give us some pointers.
